Haley Thayer was born and raised in Orange County, CA. Her ferocious hard work and tenacity comes from watching her Dad, Ken Thayer, build a company from the ground up. Ken created Residential First Mortgage over 30 years ago. He has continually changed and grown his company from Institutional Mortgages to Non-QM to Private Money. Haley grew up watching her Dad be the first one into work and the last one to leave. Loving his job every day and striving to help as many people as he could with financial success through homeownership. Haley saw that drive and put it into everything she did.
Her love of reporting and journalism came from reading the LA Times every morning before school with her Dad. They would turn to the sports section first to read what Bill Plaschke had to say about the Lakers that morning. Sports are a huge part of Haley’s life – she has played volleyball, basketball and swam competitively growing up. She was the captain of most of the teams she played on. It was not until Haley went to college at SMU in Dallas, TX that she began to write and shoot video for the Journalism school. She was a breaking news reporter for the Dallas Morning News, interned for WFAA, was the News Director for SMU-TV’s student-run broadcast, Online Editor for The Daily Campus, and the Editor in Chief for The Metropolitan.
Her career began in 2014 at WBIR in Knoxville, TN. She was a News Producer for the morning newscasts. She worked on everything from the 5 a.m., 6 a.m., and 7-9 a.m. That job was the first time she had the chance to work on her own show and make decisions with an entire crew. She loved the work for two years and moved on to a new marketing role under the same company in Seattle at KING 5 News. Through her promotions work at KING 5 she earned recognition through an Emmy and two PromaxBDA awards. She worked with people like NBC’s Lester Holt to create beautiful and lasting promotions for the station. After two years, Haley decided to make a change in her career.
This is where her work as a Personal Mortgage Consultant came in. While Haley was trying to decide what her next move was going to be, she reached out to her Dad for advice. He suggested she come on as the Marketing Director for his Private Money company – Residential First Capital. They needed help with marketing and she was the one to do it. Haley jumped on board and was immediately immersed in the world of mortgages. From there, Haley built a branch of the company in Seattle while marketing to people who were moving from Washington to California and vice versa. Haley became a Personal Mortgage Consultant and built her own clientele. She worked there for three years before she got married and had a baby. As life goes, when you have a child being close to family is key.
Haley, her husband, Matt and their baby, Michael, moved down to Orange Country, CA in February of 2021. Haley is now shifting her focus to the Southern California area where her roots began. It’s been a full circle and she’s excited to help people she grew up with grow their wealth through homeownership. Haley takes pride in her drive, competitiveness and desire to help each and every one of her clients understand their mortgage and understand their money. It goes beyond buying a home or saving money through a refinance, her goal is to create financial stability through generational wealth for her clients. Haley is honest, she is fair and she loves communicating with her clients throughout the entire process and beyond. This company, Residential First Mortgage, is a family. And Haley hopes to make each client apart of that family.
